The Sell Goods Story- About Us
How Sell Goods Came To Be…
I have been a market trader most of my working life, started weekends and tied it in with my 9–5 job. I have always enjoyed selling ever since I was around 6 or 7, selling my toy cars to other kids etc.
After getting made redundant from my job, I thought I would work markets full time around 1994. It was a very difficult journey. I would work 9 markets a week — 2 on a Wednesday, 2 on a Saturday. I also moved onto Blackheath Market around this time. I was told I wouldn’t do any good here according to one trader, and also said, “If you sell peanuts, you make peanuts.” This only made me more determined to succeed. It was very, very tough and hard graft.
Well, eventually I was one of the top 4 traders on that market. It got so busy I had to take on extra storage around the year 2000 so I could buy bulk stock at cheaper prices and to save time. While it saved me time, it didn’t save me money. Yes, I was saving money by buying in bulk, but the cost of the storage cancelled out the savings. So, as I knew a few other traders, I would sell a bit of my stock to them at the price I would have paid without my discount to cover the cost of my storage unit. Well, this got busier and I found I had to take on another unit to keep up with the market supply and the wholesale supply, and because I was selling more stock I had to buy more. This caught the attention of a few companies that thought, “He’s selling a lot, so we will offer him better and more deals.”
My first big deal was when I was offered 6 pallets of Aquafresh toothbrushes. I couldn’t possibly pay for them or store them, so I asked the seller for a sample, and in a few days I got the sample, drove to Poundland’s main office in my old van, pulled up outside, wrote my phone number and name, price, quantity etc. and walked into reception and left it with the receptionist. By some chance of God and luck, the buyer rang me and agreed to take all I had. I had to hire a lorry (7.5-ton) to collect and deliver the stock.
The next move was to find a bigger warehouse which was near West Brom. The unit looked so big when I moved in I thought I’ll never fill it or meet the rent. How wrong was I — after a year I had to take on the unit next to me and then the next one to that. Eventually, I had an opportunity to buy a larger building that would belong to me. It was a no-brainer, but still a worry as I had to put a large deposit down, and what if it failed? I would lose everything. I didn’t need to have worried — we just got busier, the company grew and grew.
When I was a market trader, I had to visit around 7 different warehouses a week plus order deliveries off another 4 or 5, and I had thought, “Why can’t I get everything I need off just one place?” — which is what I moulded my business on. I created for others what I wanted for myself. I was also the first to open at 6am in the morning so that traders could get stock before they opened up, and also opened Saturdays and bank holidays — both were unheard of.
Unfortunately, my private life went wrong and I had to sell up and make staff redundant, but I ensured every last supplier was paid up — even the tax man.
This gave me the chance to start fresh and launch a new company — Sellgoods Ltd. With only a small budget and a lot of determination, I found another storage unit and began again from the ground up. In just a few short years, the business grew far beyond what I’d imagined.
Our Ethics
There have been plenty of changes in the industry since we restarted, including challenges like COVID, which had a huge impact on trade. But we’ve adapted every step of the way and built a reputation as a company that always puts customers’ needs before profit. We’ve always offered, and will continue to offer, honest advice to those starting out as well as to established businesses looking to grow.
We don’t push sales — we only sell what you can sell and never talk any of our customers into buying something that won’t sell. In fact, our motto is:
WE KNOW WHAT SELLS
We only stock what sells and at a price you can resell.
2025 Onwards
A few years back, my daughter Charlotte joined the company and has learnt it from the inside out. She was on markets with me from virtually the day she was born. This year (2025) I suffered a heart attack and Charlotte stepped up to the mark to run the company while I was in hospital, and she is still looking after it to this day. She has big ideas to take the company into the future and has already made changes — a new website, new payment choices, sold off slow stock to replace with faster moving stock, which is sold by people walking in or on our WhatsApp group, which has been a great success.

My personal experience of Sellgoods Ltd is a positive one. From day one, I was made to feel welcome and valued as a customer. I started as an outdoor market trader a few years back and have recently moved into an indoor market stall selling the same products. I've always felt confident in my stock purchased from Sellgoods Ltd. They were always happy to help and recommend trying something new. Their company motto is "we know what sells", they are true to their words and they really do know what sells.

Sean - Blackheath Market
Sellgoods has been my No.1 supplier for 20 years. They always go above and beyond to get me the best stock at the lowest prices. Being an ex-market trader, he knows what sells and never pushes stock that doesn’t move—he relies on repeat business just like us. The cash and carry is run by Charlotte, Mel, and John, while he sources quality gear for customers from Tipton to Manchester, Burnley, and even overseas. They’re always happy to help new and existing customers and point you in the right direction. I buy in bulk, and when they post on WhatsApp my stock is palletised and ready for collection—saving hassle. Sellgoods truly is the No.1 wholesaler.

I’ve been a customer of this fantastic toiletries wholesaler for over 20 years, and I can honestly say their service has never been anything short of excellent. Nothing is ever too much trouble for them — the staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and always go the extra mile. They offer a fantastic range of products at the best prices, and if they don’t have something in stock, they’ll get it in for you within just a few days. The variety and quality of their stock are second to none, and every item is something that sells quickly. After all these years, they remain my go-to supplier, and I wouldn’t dream of going anywhere else. First-class service, great people, unbeatable prices — highly recommended!
